For those of you from other parts of the world who may not be familiar with our area, this is where the famous Klondike Gold Rush took place in 1896, attracting tens of thousands of stampeders who arrived here with the hope of striking it rich.

This is also the traditional territory of Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in. The indigenous people of this region have a rich history and heritage they share with visitors from all over. Dawson is located at the confluence of the Yukon and Klondike Rivers, where Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in fished salmon for many centuries.

Today, Dawson continues to be an energetic and forward looking community attracting new residents and visitors from all over the globe; making this the most cosmopolitan town of its size anywhere.

Recent accomplishments include the opening our new School of Visual Arts. The Klondike Institute of Art & Culture continues as a very positive influence within the cultural industry sector of our economy. These ongoing incentives greatly enhance the quality of life in our town.
